Writing Center Reflection

This semester, I went to the writing center for my Choice Project in my portfolio. I had already finished my personal narrative by the time I made the appointment, so the purpose was to look over my writing and finding what I needed to fix. First, someone read over my paper and fixed the small, grammatical errors. Afterwards, we spoke about the bigger picture ideas. He gave me tips on how to clarify my writing and explained my mistakes to me, so I could know how to fix them.

This meeting moved my piece forward because it helped me clarify my work and fix some of my major problems. During my meeting, Dr. Newton told me that my first paragraph was confusing because the wording was all over the place. He gave me some tips on how to shorten sentences to make them more concise but still able to get the point across. One major problem he helped me fix was one of the characters. My choice project focuses on my journey at camp, but I had decided to include one of my friends who had gone with me. He suggested that I cut her out of the story because she just made it confusing to read, and it would put emphasis on how alone I felt. Overall, my writing center appointment helped to improve my piece significantly and assure me that my point had gotten across to a reader.
